Description:
The Mary Ann Hale Collection consists of many old black and white photographs Mary Ann found in the house she purchased at 224 Harbor Drive. This and an abutting property belonged to Samuel S. Torrey, then passed to Maynard V. Torrey. The Torrey family inter-married with the Allan L.Black family, and both lines owned 2 homes here for many years and were an active part of the community. Pictures are of friends and relatives of both families. Mary Ann purchased the house from Grace Maillet and donated most of the photos she found to THS. She later sold the house to Marc and Robin Fisichella. [show more]

Description:
This collection of black and white photographs (and one tintype) was given to us by Mary Ann Hale, who purchased her Bass Harbor house at 224 Harbor Drive in 1994 from Doris M. Bridgham (probably Doris Torrey). Mary Ann found the photos in the house. The home was owned formerly by Maynard Torrey, father of Doris and Dorian. Maynard Torrey inherited the property from his father, Samuel S. Torrey, originally from Swan's Island. Maynard's sister, Fannie Etta Torrey married Allen Leslie Black, and they lived in the next house, and raised their family there. These photos are from both families. [show more]
